Jersey’s Weekender festival is poised to feature a unique live orchestral performance of iconic 90s hits.
Alex James, the bassist for the renowned band Blur, announced that his ensemble, Britpop Classical, will headline the festival’s opening night on September 11th.
James described the performance as a presentation of “generation-defining anthems” from seminal groups like Blur, Oasis, and Pulp, reimagined through a full 38-piece orchestra accompanied by carefully selected guest vocalists.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the festival appearance, James promised an experience that would be both “loud” and “cinematic.”

“It’s going to be legendary,” James stated.
Festival organizer Warren Le Sueur detailed the event’s structure, explaining that the Weekender is divided into distinct evenings to curate two “totally different, heavy-hitting” experiences.
Friday’s programming will center on the orchestral spectacle, while Saturday, September 12th, will showcase a “powerhouse” lineup of multiple artists.
“Bringing Britpop Classical to Jersey is going to be electric,” Le Sueur commented.
“This isn’t just a trip down memory lane – it’s a massive, symphonic masterpiece you have to see to believe.”
