When questioned on Wednesday about his proximity to finalizing a long-term agreement with the Green Bay Packers, the wide receiver offered a measured response.
“Yeah, that’s the hope,” Watson stated during the team’s Organized Team Activities (OTAs). “I mean, I’ve essentially entrusted everything to my agent. When we get close to a decision point, he’ll obviously keep me informed. For the time being, my focus is solely on what I can control, allowing him to manage his responsibilities.”
His agent has since completed the task.
Less than 24 hours later, Watson finalized a four-year, $110.5 million contract with the Packers, which includes a $31 million signing bonus.
This move follows Green Bay’s April agreement with wide receiver Jayden Reed on a three-year, $50.25 million deal. Additionally, Matthew Golden, projected as a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, is currently operating under his rookie contract, ensuring the Packers’ top three receiving threats are secured for the foreseeable future.
Watson demonstrated remarkable resilience, returning from a torn ACL midway through the previous season—just nine and a half months after the injury occurred—and delivering what was arguably his most impressive performance to date.
Participating in the final 10 games, Watson recorded 35 receptions for 611 yards and six touchdowns. Notably, during this period, his average of 17.5 yards per catch led the entire NFL.
“Since Christian’s return, I believe our passing game has seen an increase in explosive plays,” commented Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love during the past season. “That’s precisely the type of player Christian is. He creates matchup issues with his speed when he has the ball, enabling him to make significant plays.”
Watson had previously signed a one-year, $13.25 million extension in September 2025, providing both him and the team an opportunity to evaluate his future performance as he recovered from his injury.
“Coming off the ACL, a long-term commitment wasn’t really feasible at the time,” Watson explained on Wednesday. “So, it was primarily about securing stability.”
The recent four-year, $141 million extension signed by Atlanta’s Drake London earlier this week was viewed positively by Watson, who believes it benefits wide receivers across the league.
“Yes, as the market expands with deals like these, it naturally becomes more advantageous for players like us who are on track for significant contracts,” Watson remarked.
Watson has now secured his long-term contract and is expected to remain a key player for the Packers for the foreseeable future.
