Alex Vesia, a hurler for the Los Angeles Dodgers, commenced a leave of absence while his squad battled the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2025 Fall Classic. “It is with great sadness that we inform you that Alex Vesia is stepping away from the team as he and his spouse, Kayla, are dealing with a deeply personal family concern,” the message disclosed. “The entire Dodgers organization is conveying our support to the Vesia household, and we will furnish updates when possible.”

Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts noted the club was “expecting” Alex to be absent from the World Series roster “unless something unforeseen transpires.”
“I believe we looked into several possible routes, but keeping in mind the circumstances he is facing and that baseball is certainly of lesser importance, it seemed like the most appropriate action for our organization to take,” Dave revealed, according to Dodgers Nation. “In all candor, I’m not fully informed on all that went into it.”
Dave then expressed that the term “heartbreaking” was insufficient to depict Alex’s situation, as per Newsweek. The manager lauded the Dodgers’ choice to incorporate the number 51 on their caps to pay homage to Alex.
“I was unaware of it until after last night’s game, and it truly exemplifies the kinship shared among athletes and Major League Baseball players,” Dave expressed. “They often say that ‘baseball is their vocation, but not their identity,’ and for them to acknowledge Alex, and the ordeals faced by him and Kayla, the term heartbreaking isn’t even adequate.”
When Can We Expect Alex Vesia to Return to the Dodgers?
As the specifics of his situation are vague, an anticipated comeback date for Alex to the Dodgers is still pending. However, he is expected to participate next season. Had he been placed on the family emergency medical leave list, Alex might have been reinstated at a later point during the World Series. However, President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman specified that Alex was not put on the list because the MLB “didn’t want to create any potential pressure.”
