Patchwork is back: why patchwork skirts will be the main trend of the season

In the collections of the autumn-winter 2025/2026 season, designers gave priority to things that tell a story through details. One of the most striking manifestations of this mood was the patchwork-style skirts – complex, multi-layered, created from different textures and colors, they embody the idea of creative freedom that opposes monotony.

If patchwork was once associated with craftsmanship or exclusively boho style, today it sounds new. At the shows of Etro, Chloé, Jason Wu and Maison Margiela, such skirts combined satin and corduroy, leather and chiffon, strict lines with chaotic asymmetry. They resemble art objects, where each fragment is a separate story, but together they form a harmonious whole.

Silhouettes range from layered maxis to pleated or ruffled midi skirts. Some look like they're made from multiple skirts, one tucked inside the other or layered over a contrasting layer. This is a new take on layering that adds dynamics to even the most laid-back look.

To emphasize the character of the skirt, designers advise combining it with simple things – white shirts, plain basic tops or sweaters. In such an image, the main role is played by texture and color combinations. And the most daring should try contrast: patchwork with a leather jacket, voluminous coat or metal accessories.
