The future of Netflix's Heartbreak has been uncertain since the third season dropped in late 2024. Now, fans finally have an answer about its fate. Earlier this year, show creator Alice Ozeman revealed at a book festival that she was “working really hard behind the scenes to get Heartbreak renewed for [a fourth season].” Though Alice noted at the time that there was no definitive answer yet, “so many people were working on it.” However, in April 2025, fans received news that sounded like Heartbreak was over. Or was it?

Heartstopper cancelled?
The answer is yes and no. Cardiac Arrest didn't have a fourth season, but there will be a movie that will wrap up Nick and Charlie's story.
Netflix's decision to pull the film instead of another season came after the third season of Cardiac Arrest saw a decline in viewership compared to the first two. While the series was still popular with viewers around the world, the decline in viewership could have led to its cancellation.
No one from the cast or crew of Cardiac Arrest has confirmed the reason why Netflix has not renewed the series for a fourth season.
Release date of the movie “Cardiac Arrest”
Netflix has not yet announced a release date for Cardiac Arrest. However, Deadline reports that filming began this summer and officially wrapped on July 27, 2025. Based on that schedule, the film is expected to premiere in 2026.

Alice said she was “thrilled to be able to tell the story of Heartstopper,” according to Deadline, which says the film will give Charlie and Nick “a fitting ending” to their love story.
