The representatives for Erling Haaland have officially refuted claims made by Enrique Riquelme, a candidate for the Real Madrid presidency, who asserted that he had secured an agreement with the Norwegian striker should he assume leadership of the Spanish club.
Enrique Riquelme is scheduled to face Florentino Perez in the presidential election on June 7, challenging Perez’s established 23-year tenure across two separate periods.
Florentino Perez has already indicated that Jose Mourinho will take over as the new head coach at the Santiago Bernabéu if he secures another term.
During an appearance on the widely viewed Spanish television program El Hormiguero on Wednesday evening, Riquelme pledged to deliver both Haaland and Rodri to the Real Madrid fanbase if elected.

Riquelme presented a Real Madrid jersey bearing Haaland’s name and number, stating, “If I fail to deliver on any of my promises regarding these players, I’ve signed a guarantee that, in the event of any breach, I will pay 100% of all the members’ dues for the following season.”
Haaland’s Camp Denies Real Madrid Candidate’s Claims
Coinciding with Riquelme’s television appearance, the radio station Cadena SER contacted Haaland’s agency, which is currently managed by Rafaela Pimenta following the passing of Mino Raiola.
A formal statement was subsequently issued by both Pimenta and Haaland’s father, Alfe.
“It’s all very entertaining, but none of it is true. We wish both candidates the best in the Real Madrid elections,” the statement conveyed.
Manchester City Expresses Displeasure with Real Madrid
Spanish sports newspaper MARCA reached out to Manchester City for comment, receiving the response: “The stories that have emerged from Spain regarding Erling Haaland’s future are false. There is no possibility of this [his departure from the Etihad] happening, and there is no contractual clause that allows it.”
Furthermore, the Premier League club is reportedly considering legal action. “We are considering legal action for the use of our player’s image in this context,” the statement from the Abu Dhabi-owned club added.
Potential On-Field Dynamics: Mbappe and Haaland at Real Madrid
Even in the hypothetical scenario where Riquelme wins the presidency and his claim regarding Haaland proves true, the tactical integration of the Norwegian striker alongside Kylian Mbappé presents an interesting challenge.
Mbappé has recently adapted to a more central attacking role in Madrid to accommodate Vinícius Júnior on the left wing within the same starting eleven.
While reassigning Mbappé to his preferred left flank might seem a logical solution, it could potentially displace Vinícius Júnior, whose current contract is set to expire in June 2027 and has yet to be extended.
An alternative could involve fielding both players as strikers, but this might lead to an unbalanced Real Madrid formation, especially if both Mbappé and Vinícius Jr. operate predominantly on the left and neglect defensive duties.
Business Style Takeaway: Political maneuvering within club presidencies can directly impact transfer market speculation, creating potential disruptions for clubs and players. Real Madrid’s internal election process has inadvertently led to public statements that necessitate official denials from both the player’s camp and the current club, highlighting the sensitivity of player image rights and contractual integrity in high-stakes football negotiations.
