In February 2024, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles III had been diagnosed with cancer.

His Majesty has decided to disclose his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope that it will help the public better understand all those affected by cancer around the world, the palace said in a statement.

Officials have not disclosed the exact form of cancer the monarch has. He was hospitalized last March due to side effects from cancer treatment. As a result, the king stepped back from his royal duties; however, he returned to work the following month.

While Charles III has rarely spoken about his health since his diagnosis, in May an aide spoke about how the 76-year-old king is coping with the illness while continuing to work.

“The main thing you need to know about this disease is that you just have to get on with it, and that’s what he’s doing,” a palace spokesman told the Telegraph. “Medical science has made incredible advances. The main thing is just to do what the doctors say and live as normal a life as possible. That’s what he’s doing.
