The wait for Avatar 3, now officially titled Avatar: Fire and Ash, is drawing to a close, and excitement is running high. After the first two films set box office records, fans are eagerly awaiting a return to Pandora for the next chapter in James Cameron’s epic sci-fi saga. Even though Disney announced the film’s release would be pushed back to 2025 back in June 2023, that delay is still tiny compared to the 13-year gap between the original Avatar (2009) and its sequel Avatar: The Path of Water (2022).
In Fire and Ash, Sam Worthington reprises his role as Jake Sully, a former Marine turned Na’vi warrior. The story expands to include the Ash People, an aggressive clan of Na’vi who wield fire and threaten to upset the balance of Pandora. From the cast and trailer to production news and plot details, here’s everything we know about Avatar 3.

Avatar: Fire and Ash Release Date
Avatar 3 is scheduled to hit theaters on December 19, 2025. The release date has changed nine times. The film was originally set for December 20, 2024, but was then pushed back to June 13 due to the ongoing writers’ strike. The third film is rumored to be titled Avatar: The Seed Carrier.
Star Zoe Saldana has responded positively to the delays of Avatar 3, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5. “Great! I’ll be 53 when the last Avatar movie comes out. I was 27 when I did the first @avatar movie,” she wrote on her Instagram stories.
