For Reyez, the process of making music revolves around being present. “I just kind of vibe,” she explains regarding her method. “My approach isn’t precise or clinical or deliberate; it’s more instinctual.” On March 28, Reyez will unveil her third solo album, Paid in Memories, which she describes as delving into “the sweeter side of love.” The lead single, “Goliath,” offers a beautifully raw insight into profound devotion, featuring her rich, resonant vocals prominently for maximum effect.
“My PROCESS isn’t METICULOUS or CLINICAL or INTENTIONAL; it’s more like a REFLEX.”
For this edition, Reyez curated a playlist of emotionally resonant tracks that embody her musical essence—a “rainbow, genre-less, and genre-bending” assortment of songs that have influenced her development as an artist. Alongside Sailorr’s breakout success “Pookie’s Requiem” and Destiny’s Child’s poignant ballad “Emotion,” she features Lola Young’s “Messy,” a song centered on self-acceptance. “It unveils the reality of imperfection,” Reyez remarks about Young’s piece. “It’s utterly vulnerable, yet in a way that resonates universally.”
