The cast of The Cosby Show is mourning the loss of one of its co-stars. Malcolm-Jamal Warner , who played Theodore “Theo,” tragically passed away in July 2025 after accidentally drowning in Costa Rica. He was 54 years old and is survived by his wife and daughter.

Bill Cosby (“Cliff Huxtable”)

In 2018, Bill Cosby was convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004. The infamous comedian was found guilty of three felony counts and sentenced to three to 10 years in prison in Pennsylvania. Multiple women have accused Cosby of various forms of abuse, from rape to sexual harassment and assault.

Bill remained in prison until June 2021, when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his conviction due to a violation of his right to due process guaranteed by the 5th and 14th Amendments to the Constitution. However, in 2022, Bill was convicted of sexually assaulting 16-year-old Judy Huth .

Phylicia Rashad (Claire Huxtable)

Considered one of television’s most powerful mothers (and one of the most famous black mothers in pop culture), Phylicia Rashad brought structure and stability to The Cosby Show as Clair Huxtable. After the show ended in 1992, she returned to the stage. In 2004, her performance as Lena Younger in a revival of A Raisin in the Sun earned her a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play, becoming the first black actress to win the award, according to Today magazine. She continues to act and receive critical acclaim, earning Emmy nominations for her role as Carol Clarke on This Is Us.

Lisa Bonet (Denise Huxtable)

The famous free spirit Denise Huxtable was brought to life by Lisa Bonet , and soon after her debut on The Cosby Show, Denise became the show’s most popular character. As Denise, Lisa received her own spin-off, A Different World, but her performance in the first season received mixed reviews. Before the second season, Lisa and her then-husband Lenny Kravitz announced that they were expecting a child. Lisa gave birth to daughter Zoe Kravitz in 1988, returned to The Cosby Show full-time in 1989, divorced Lenny in 1993, and married Jason Momoa in 2017. She and Jason had a daughter, Lola, in 2007 and a son , Nakoa-Wolf, in 2008. After The Cosby Show, Lisa starred in films such as Enemy of the State and High Fidelity, as well as shows such as Drunk History, Girls, Red Road, and Ray Donovan.
